Description

A watching brief was carried out by AC Archaeology during the development of a small stone built shelter at Lake Gates, Corfe Mullen. Observations took place during the excavation of trenches for the structure. The new development is of dimensions 9m by 4.50m. Its footings trenches measured 0.5m wide and were excavated to a depth of 0.70m. Groundworks were carried out by a JCB mechanical excavator using a 0.5m wide toothless bucket. No archaeological finds features or deposits were found during the development, despite the site lying just outside the boundaries of a known Roman Fort.
