Description

AC archaeology carried out a watching brief during the development of a duck pond on agricultural land next to Manor Farm in Stourpaine. An area of 625m² was inspected during and after the removal of topsoil, and excavated using a mini digger fitted with a 1m wide grading bucket down to a depth of 550mm. No archaeological features or deposits were observed in the area of the pond, in particular no evidence for the medieval manor house or settlement. Two sherds of medieval pottery, a piece of worked flint and some iron slag were recovered from spoil.
