Description

AC Archaeology was commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation consisting of six trenches at Charlton Marshall. Each trench in the investigation measured 18m by 1.6m, equalling a 1% sample of the site. The removal of soil was overseen by the on-site archaeologist. Topsoil was removed using a mechanical excavator with a 1.6m wide toothless bucket. The evaluation showed that there was underlying archaeological activity of later prehistoric date across the proposed development area. This includes land divisions, tracks and some sporadic evidence for domestic activity.
