Description

Archaeological monitoring occurred during the excavation of trenches for repair and refurbishment of a water main in the vicinity of Corscombe Court, Dorset. Excavation was done in the form of a mechanical excavator and two trenches were excavated. On the 26th June 1997 a trench was dug measuring 2.5 metres long and 1 metre wide and approximately 1m deep. This was for the access for the repair of a burst water main. There was evidence of previous ground disturbance caused by the initial installation of the water main. On the 10th of July an inspection was made on a trench dug the previous day. This measured 2.5 metres long, 1.5 metres wide and 1.5 metres deep. Again there was evidence of disturbed ground from a previously installed service pipe. No archaeological features or finds were observed in either trench.
