Description

An archaeological evaluation for a proposed residential development on land at Duncliffe View, Common Mead Lane, Gillingham, Dorset (ST 799261), was carried out by AC archaeology during June 2003. The evaluation consisted of three machine-excavated trenches, totalling 29m in length, each 1.6m wide and located within the gardens of the existing house. Modern features and disturbance were present in the NW portion of the site, whereas to the south of the existing house a surviving soil profile was recorded. The only finds recovered were two pieces of prehistoric worked flint and a single sherd of medieval pottery from topsoil contexts.
