Description

AC Archaeology conducted a desk based assessment of 0.13ha of land to the north of Grove Lane, Stalbridge as a result of a planning application for the construction of six cottages on the site. The assessment concluded that the site lies within 50m of the likely site of a medieval market and within the zone of the historic settlement. It also lies within 150m of a likely Roman occupation site. Buildings existed along the Grove Lane frontage from at least the early 19th century. These buildings were demolished at some time between 1956 and 1979. The site has since been developed as Old Market Mews, Grove Lane.
