Description

Small scale excavations were conducted by Keen, Thackray and Gem at the north end of the lower Library, Sherborne School during 1976 in advance of refurbishment (1)(2). Two small cuttings were opened. In the northern cutting the north wall of the west claustral range of Sherborne Abbey was exposed. The southern cutting revealed the top of a robbed out wall foundation sealed beneath the floor of the room. This might represent a wall predating the west claustral range or an internal division of that range (1).
