Description

Archaeological monitoring during the construction of a new covered market area and associated works at Fairfield Road, Dorchester, was carried out by AC Archaeology between May and July 2001.This primarily comprised the observation of the stanchion bases for the new structure. Very little area was exposed. Previous observations during the excavation of geotechnical pits on this site revealed two Roman burials. Two further inhumation burials and two cremation burials of Roman date, together with a number of ditches and other features were also noted.
