Description

The tesselated pavement of a Roman building was exposed during the digging of foundations for the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel at the corner of Durngate Street and South Street in c. 1875. Large light grey tesserae were set in a mortar bed 2ins thick; a small fragment is in the DCM [1].
