Description

H Colley March cut a section through a strip lynchet on the south side of Allington Hill in about 1903. The trench was about 60ft (18m) long and its width is not recorded, nor is its precise location, though it is clear which lynchet was sectioned. A section through the lynchet and the top of the underlying natural has been published. The topsoil on the lynchet contained clay tobacco pipe, fragments of Cornish roofing slate, iron objects and a large quantity of glazed pottery.
