Description
An excavation was directed by Alan Graham in October-November 1980 in advance of an extension to the existing car park of Integrated Photomatrix Ltd. A section of the inner ditch was excavated, but no trace of the outer rampart was found, it had probably been destroyed by the creation of the aqueduct. A scatter of disarticulated human bone was found within the ditch fills. The upper fills related to the digging of the aqueduct. Two burials were excavated, probably outliers of the large late Roman cemetery further down the hillside (1). The results of the excavation were published together with the results from the 1966-1979 excavations at Poundbury (2) (3).
