Description

Trench 3 was one of 3 evaluation trenches excavated by Terrain Archaeology in November 2002 in advance of redevelopment of Dorford Baptist Church, Bridport Road, Dorchester. Trench 3 was located in the SW corner of the site and was a 1m square test pit dug by hand to a maximum depth of 1.6m. 0.4m thick layers of chalk and clay containing rare worked flint and scraps of Roman pottery, were interpreted as part of the counterscarp bank of the Roman defences of Dorchester.
