Description

This trench was an extension and enlargement of an evaluation trench and was excavated to investigate the nature of the dry valley deposits, primarily for environmental information. A small ditch, a small number of postholes containing Beaker pottery and an undated pit were found cut into the chalk beneath the colluvium. Four phases of colluviation were identified, dating to the early Neolithic, the Bronze Age, the Late Iron Age and the post-medieval periods. A lynchet dating to the Bronze Age period of colluviation was also found.
