House and gateway. c1850, extended, by Charles Barry. Brick with stone dressings, brick ridge stack and a tiled roof. Tudor Revival style. Single-depth plan with 1-room S extension. Single storey and attic; 3-bay range. A tall moulded 2-centre carriage arch set in a tall gable with oval Canford Arms panel and flanked by shallow buttresses, the roll-top gable coping extends to the right-hand gabled half dormer and end gables, with ogee gable finials. Ground-floor paired 2-centre-arched windows in label moulds, the dormer has a small arched window, with a similar paired window in the right-hand end gable. Left-hand 3-stage tower with square base with diagonal buttresses, slit windows and an octagonal belfry with open cusped lights, and leaded ogee domed roof. Large stack with ashlar base and 4-sided shaft. Similar rear elevation, with a mid C20 extension. INTERIOR not inspected. The main entrance gateway to Canford House (now Canford School (qv)), remodelled by Barry for the Guest family, and part of a large group of similarly styled estate houses. Originally one room wide but extended to S.
