Description

SIDMOUTH ROAD 1. 1357 (South Side) Upper Cobb House SY 3391 2/202 II 2, Formerly known as Little Cliff and marked as such on OS 25" map. Early to mid C19 villa; a building is shown on this site on a "Plan of Lyme Regis and Environs. 1841". Built on sloping ground. Entrance front of 1-storey and basement. Slate roof. Entrance floor has round-headed door to centre; fretwork panels to archivolt; panelled door; semi-circular fanlight. Area railings extend from either side of doorway. Also to either side of door, a round-headed window. Rectangular sashes with glazing bars to basement. Garden front of 2-storeys, 3-window bays. Overhanging eaves. Centre 1st floor window with 3-centred head; sash window to either side with louvred shutters. Coved veranda on trellised supports to ground floor. Large windows with glazing bars to centre of ground floor front with a glazed panel withinterlacing tracery over; to either end of ground floor a French casement with a similar narrower rectangular panel with interlacing tracery over. Within, plaster ceilings executed by Italian craftsmen to the design of the architect Arnold Mitchell (Fellow of RIBA; born 1863 died 1944). Listing NGR: SY3343791977
