Description

SY 49 NW MARSHWOOD SHAVE CROSS 6/30 Shave Cross, Public House GV II Public House, formerly farmhouse. Late C18 and dated 1833. Rubble stone walls with dressed stone quoins. Stone gable-copings. Thatch roof with brick chimney stacks at each gable-end. L-Plan: west wing dated 1833 and formerly cellar. East wing is original farmhouse with fireplace at west end. Two storeys. Three windows, wooden casements with small leaded lights and segmental brick arches over. Doorway and porch centrally, brick porch walls and pitched thatch roof. Extension wing marked by, datestone, straight- joint and change to lias stone walls. Interior: open fireplace with shallow chamfered bressummer, c.l8OO. Jointed crucks in west wing not part of this building, inserted by a former landlord. Flagstone floors to main bar. Source: Marshwood Tithe Map, 1843. Listing NGR: SY4154597993
