Abstract/Summary

‘In December 1997 Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Parsons and Joyce Contractors Limited to undertake an archaeological evaluation on 0.2 ha of land proposed for the construction of 18 flats and flatlets at the former Wareham Supplies site, North Causeway, Wareham, Dorset centred on SY 9205 8805. The proposed development area is currently occupied by rough ground and the remains of the former Wareham Supplies building. The site lies on the projected alignment of Roman and medieval roads and 100m to the south of the site of the discovery of a number of undated inhumations recorded in 1988. Four trenches, totalling 35m2 or 1.75% of the total site area, were machine excavated and hand cleaned. They showed that the ground level within the proposed development site had been partly truncated and raised in the recent past. No archaeological features were recorded.'
