SWX868 - The Excavation of an Oval Barrow in Hadden's Hill Plantation, Bournemouth. The Antiquaries Journal, Volume 8, Issue 1

'This barrow is situated on the southern slope of Hadden's Hill Plantation, on the north side of the lower end of Queen's Park Avenue, and is in a line with the western border of the Nursery Gardens—Lat. 50.44.52., Long. 1.50.19. W. The plantation has lately been cleared and the barrow is now practically free from all vegetation (fig. 1). Owing to its position upon a slope this barrow may, by silting and spreading, have altered its shape, and the fact that it is composed of sand and is almost devoid of vegetation may have been a contributory cause. In all probability, however, its oval outline at the time of excavation was its original outline, for that was the shape of the black band running through the barrow at the level of the old turf-line ; but the complete absence of a ditch makes it difficult to speak with certainty.'
