Abstract/Summary
Four trenches were excavated in the south-eastern part of Bowers Quarry, Portland, immediately to the west of St Georges’ Church, Reforne.
One trench was excavated over a stone-lined drain, running E-W from the churchyard into the quarry. No dating evidence was recovered. This drain is likely to have been constructed to drain the churchyard, which was prone to flooding.
The other trenches were dug by machine to evaluate the surviving ground surface of the quarry. No archaeology was encountered.
