Abstract/Summary
Results of a watching brief during work on a pollution prevention scheme. There was no evidence during the observation work for buried archaeological remains or for artefacts of pre-modern date. Substantial recent terracing has significantly reduced the likelihood of the survival of any in situ archaeological remains. In the majority of ground works observed during the watching brief, only modern building rubble was recorded and, where bedrock deposits were recorded, these were at levels probably substantially reduced from the original ground surface. On the basis of these results, the archaeological potential of this northern part of Peveril Point to the north of Peveril Point Road can now be considered to be low.
