Title | Summary report on an Archaeological Evaluation at Tatchells Quarry, Wareham, Dorset. |
Author/Originator | Higgins, P |
Date/Year | 1997 |
Abstract/Summary
Following consultation with the County Archaeological Officer regarding a proposed landfill extension at Tatchells Quarry, Wareham, Dorset (centred NGR SY 9095 8500), an archaeological excavation was carried out by Southern Archaeological Services Ltd, funded by Haul Waste. Three 10m long trenches were opened, and the natural sand exposed. No archaeological features or deposits were encountered, and oral sources indicate the site had been stripped of topsoil, a thin layer of gravel extracted, and the topsoil reinstated; this was said to have occurred circa 1983.
