Abstract/Summary

The archaeological desk-based assessment revealed no archaeological sites or findspots on the site of the proposed Creative Arts Block or its ancillary development. No scheduled Ancient Monuments or listed buildings impinge upon the development of the site, although parts of the school itself are listed. The development site lies immediately to the northeast of the former South Lytchett Manor, of early nineteenth century origin and bought in 1957 by Dorset County Council to be converted to a Comprehensive School. The development site lies within the remnant formal gardens of South Lytchett Manor. There is little evidence for mediaeval activity on the site or within the study area. This is confined to the site of the local parish church which lies half a kilometre to the south of the Manor. No evidence was discovered for any earlier activity on the site or within the study area.
