Abstract/Summary

This report contains a summary of the results of an archaeological assessment survey undertaken by the Trust for Wessex Archaeology on 15.03.88. The survey area was that of the proposed temporary construction facilities at the Furzebrook rail terminal and comprised two small areas; lying north and south of the existing access road. These areas have a combined total area of c 3100 m. No archaeological deposits were observed within the trail pits, nor any finds made. The deep nature of the soil profiles encountered is associated with a layer of redeposit material observed below the topsoil, sealing the underlying, and probably truncated in situ soil profile. This layer is likely to be associated with the laying of the north existing gas main 7m north of the fence-lien forming the northern boundary of the survey area.
