Title | 'A Structural Analysis of the Chantry, Bridport, Dorset' Medieval Archaeology |
Author/Originator | Rodwell, K A |
Date/Year | 1990 |
Abstract/Summary
A detailed structural analysis of the Chantry, Bridport before and during its restoration revealed that it was constructed in the late 13th or early 14th century as a municipal building, probably associated with a harbour. In the later 14th century it was converted into a house for a chantry priest. The building was enlarged at this date by the addition of an attic storey which contains a columbarium.
