Abstract/Summary

In 1903 O. C. Vidler and Rev. Miles-Barnes observed part of a tessellated floor and road gravels in a gas main trench in Fordington High Street. The mosaic was excavated in 1927 and lifted and taken to the Dorset County Museum where it was relaid. The report details the methods of lifting and relaying the mosaic. It also includes a geological report on the tesserae. A number of finds were recovered including two iron knives of possible Saxon date.
