Abstract/Summary

Yet another relic of the Roman occupation of Dorchester has been unearthed. While workmen Were busy preparing foundations for a new Building which is to be erected opposite Cedar Park-villas, in Trinity-street, they Dorchester (sic), Discovered an ancient pavement, coloured red And white. Only about 7 feet of the pavement Was taken up, as the other portion ran under- Neath the road in Trinity-street. It is un- fortunate that the pavement was broken, but it can easily be pieced together again. Mr. C.S. Prideaux, the curator of the Dorset County Museum, said that the paving was of a common, coarse type of tessel. It was probably a passage way. Many old flints were found on the same spot and he supposed that building operations had been carried out there.
