Abstract/Summary
Lt.-Col. C. D. Drew conducted a small trial excavation in the garden of the former Rectory in Princes Street, aquired by Dorset County Hospital as a chest clinic, as it was intended to erect a new boiler house. Voluntary labour was provided by ratings form H.M.S. Implacable and later by women students from Weymouth Training College, and a trench 60 feet by 4 feet was laid out along the west side of the central garden path commencing about 37 yards from the south wall of the house. A number of Roman and later sherds were recovered, and some flints with Roman mortar adhering were noticed, but the dark soil had been disturbed down to the chalk and no structural remains were found.
