Abstract/Summary
The construction of new shops unit on Charles Street at the rear of the building known as the Nappers Mite began in September 1986, with the machine excavation of 1m wide footings, which provided the opportunity for a series of observations.
Romano-British stratigraphy could be recognised in a series of levels across the site and a number of structures were recognised. These included at least three flint and limestone wall foortings, a pit or well, an unmortared flint wall with associated gully and low chalk bank. A large amount of unstratified pottery was also recovered.
