Abstract/Summary

The first Summer meeting was held on Wednesday, 24th May, 1939. The first stop was made at Poundbury, where a small excavation was in progress under the direction of Miss K. Richardson, who kindly described the results so far obtained. A cutting through the rampart and ditch in the NW corner proved that the work was of Iron Age A date. Numerous trial cuttings within the earthworks failed to disclose any evidence any evidence of permanent habitations, so, unlike some other earthworks of this date, Poundbury was built only for temporary use in times of danger. The excavation report will appear in The Antiquaries Journal.
