Abstract/Summary

The eighth season of excavations at Poundbury lasted for 10 weeks and concentrated on half an acre of the late Roman cemetery and post-Roman settlement. 500 graves were located in the mechanically stripped area of 11,000 sq ft, of which 200 were excavated. No mausolea were discovered but 10 special burials were cleared. Several burials were in lead lined wooden coffins, some of which were packed with gypsum. The whole of the post-Roman settlement, except the eastern limits and SW perimiter, has now been excavated
