Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation by means of trench investigation and monitoring of geotechnical test pits on the site of a proposed extension to Dorchester Library, was carried out by AC archaeology during March and May 2000.
This evaluation revealed no evidence for intact archaeological deposits or finds in any testpit. A small area of soil low down in the deposit sequence was identified in the SW corner of testpit 3. Within the remaining areas, modern backfill and landscaping hardcore was encountered. It is probable that the earlier archaeological excavations and groundworks associated with the initial construction of the library will has removed any surviving evidence.
