Title | St Rowald's Chapel, South Street, Dorchester |
Author/Originator | Draper, J |
Date/Year | 1980 |
Abstract/Summary
A short article setting out the documentary evidence which has allowed the position of St Rowald's Chapel to be determined. Using the evidence from Dorchester Domesday, it has been possible to show that the chapel formerly lay on the site of the later Greyhound Yard on the east side of South Street, Dorchester. The article also briefly describes the 1955 excavations by Aubrey Parke on Greyhound Yard and suggests some of the post-Roman features may relate to the chapel or its boundary wall. The medieval pottery from Section III of that excavation is described and illustrated.
