Abstract/Summary

The construction of an access road between Dorchester's new South Station development and Weymouth Avenue uncovered three linear features after the removal of the overburden from the site. A 1.5m wide ditch, filled with light grey-brown silty loam was seen runing parallel with Weymouth Avenue, some 7.0m to the east, and can be taken to be a flanking ditch to the Roman Road, probably located under the present Weymouth Avenue. 60m further east a NE-SW aligned ditch, 2.5m wide and a smaller (1.5m wide) parallel ditch, 3m further east, were observed with red-brown clay fills and running towards Maumbury rings. This may suggest a Prehistoric date for them.
