SDO21737 - Land at Blandfords Farm, Fontmell Magna, Dorset. Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment

‘In May 2022, Cotswold Archaeology (CA) was commissioned by Intelligent Land Ltd to undertake an Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment (ADBA) of land at Blandfords Farm, Fontmell Magna, Dorset, in respect of a proposed new housing development. This assessment has identified a low potential for the presence of previously unrecorded Bronze Age and/or Iron Age remains within the Site, possibly associated with nearby recorded activity. From the medieval period onwards, the Site is understood to have formed part of the agricultural land surrounding Fontmell Magna village centre. On this basis, buried archaeological remains associated with agricultural land use may be present within the Site. These would be of limited and localised significance. It is possible that further archaeological investigation may be required prior to the determination of any planning application in order to better understand the potential presence, condition and extent of any archaeological remains within the Site. However, it is not considered that the significance of the known and potential archaeological resource within the Site is of such significance that would require preservation in situ or would influence development design.’
