Abstract/Summary
'This report presents the results of a single hand-dug excavation located on the proposed site of a hut adjacent to a weir on Waterside Lane, Sydling St. Nicholas, Dorset. The works were carried out on behalf the Environment Agency.
The excavations revealed two layers of made ground dating to the 18th and 20th centuries, possibly built up from the construction of the nearby weir. Two features identified as post holes cut into the made ground at some point in the late 20th or early 21st century were likely used as either fencing to control access to the weir or as part of a revetment built to protect the levies from erosion.'
