Title Spettisbury Rings (also known as Crawford Castle). A Geophysical Survey
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2013

Abstract/Summary

'Licensed by English Heritage under Section 42 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, a geophysical survey using magnetometry was carried out on the interior of the Iron Age hillfort at Spettisbury during February 2013. Ploughing has removed all surface features and further disturbance by moles, rabbits and probably a badger is ongoing. The magnetometry survey does not indicate intensive habitation in the Iron Age, but confirms subsequent use with three rectangular structures. Linears of unknown date bisect the hillfort and a possible trackway suggests that there may have been another gate to the southeast that has been closed by alteration of the ramparts.'
