Abstract/Summary
'Licensed by English Heritage under Section 42 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, a geophysical survey using magnetometry was carried out over two days in April 2013 on the interior of the Iron Age hillfort known as Lambert’s Castle in the parish of Marshwood, West Dorset.
The results are unclear. The various uses of the fort in the modern era have destroyed most traces of the earlier occupation, with a house and signalling station adding demolition rubble to the archaeological mélange. Trees and scrub have limited the areas that could be surveyed but in those areas only four possible ring ditches have been identified. This and the low level of magnetic enhancement suggest that the interior was not intensively occupied in the prehistoric period.'
