Abstract/Summary
‘Terrain Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of a site adjacent to Fordington Farmhouse proposed for six new dwellings in April 2024. Two trenches were excavated: one across an existing boundary wall on the projected line of the ditch of the Bronze Age Alington Avenue Double Ring-Ditch Monument and one across a lawn area to the west. Trench 1 did not find any trace of the Double Ring-Ditch monument but revealed a boundary ditch of medieval/post-medieval date, later replaced by a stone wall in the nineteenth century. This boundary marked the edge of a trackway giving access to the open fields of Fordington.
Trench 2 revealed only a single small undated curvilinear ditch.'
