| Author/Originator | Blake, Michael |
| Date/Year | 2023 |
Abstract/Summary
‘Planning consent (Ref: APP/21/01358/F) was granted by Bournemouth Christchurch Poole (BCP) Council to “demolish the existing dwelling and erect a 4 storey building comprising port-related office accommodation on the ground floor and 9 self-contained flats with associated car parking, cycle store and bin provision” at The Ferryman, 6 New Quay Road, Poole.
Condition 15 required the implementation of a scheme of archaeological mitigation which comprised of an archaeological watching brief, and should significant remains be encountered an area excavation.
The watching brief was undertaken between the 10th November 2022 and 11th January 2023 and this report presents the results.
The archaeological monitoring revealed a simple stratigraphy of made ground overlaying a gritty subsoil that sealed undulating natural sand probably laid down by tidal action.
No archaeological features were present within the monitored area.’
