Abstract/Summary
A detailed gradiometer survey was conducted over land at North Street, Bere Regis, Dorset (centred on NGR 385005 095097). The project was commissioned by Lewis Wyatt Construction Ltd with the aim of establishing the presence, or otherwise, and nature of detectable archaeological features in support of a planning application for a residential development.
The site comprises of a portion of an arable field located in the north of the village of Bere Regis and covers an area of 0.6 ha. The geophysical survey was undertaken on 4 November 2022.
The gradiometer survey has not identified any anomalies that can confidently be interpreted as archaeology. However, a possible Iron Age/Romano-British enclosure has been identified, which would correlate with the known archaeological background of the surrounding area.
A former field boundary noted on mapping from 1777 until the 1950s has been identified.
The remaining anomalies are thought to be modern in origin. The modern anomalies include services and ferrous anomalies likely relating to modern fertilisation practices.
