SDO20733 - 135-137 Christchurch Road, West Parley, Ferndown, Dorset, results of archaeological monitoring and recording

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by AC archaeology in November and December 2023 during of groundworks associated with a residential development at 135-137 Christchurch Road, West Parley, Ferndown, Dorset (SZ 07544 98273). The site is located in an area that contains evidence for prehistoric activity with this comprising a series of Bronze Age Barrows. This included a possible barrow suggested by the presence of a tumulus as shown as within the site on historic mapping. Monitored groundworks comprised the excavation of new house footprints and an access road. The monitoring of groundworks exposed modern intrusions relating to former 20th century buildings that had previously occupied the site and topsoil or modern deposits ground overlying the natural subsoil. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed and no finds were recovered.
