Abstract/Summary

This archaeological desk-based assessment has been prepared on behalf of Natural England to ascertain the archaeological potential of land at Glebe Farm, Maiden Newton, Dorset. Existing information has been synthesised to determine the nature, extent, and significance of the archaeological resource within two fields occupying the western side of Fore Hill. The results of this study suggest that the site has moderate to high archaeological potential. It contains a series of plough truncated linear and curvilinear field boundary banks, which formed elements of an extensive late prehistoric and Romano-British field system. It is also possible that these fields were reutilised by the occupants of Maiden Newton during the medieval and post-medieval periods.
