Abstract/Summary
In February 1991 Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Dorset County Council to conduct an intensive archaeological watching brief during the excavation of foundation trenches and a vehicle inspection pit for the Motor Project Building, Little Keep, Dorchester. The work was undertaken on 18th, 19th and 25th of February. This lies within the former Artillery Barracks. The ground levels were reduced by up to 1.5 m across the area and then foundation and service trenches were dug. No archaeological deposits or features were exposed. Overlying the chalk were two dumps of modern rubble, separated by a buried topsoil, probably part of the landscaping for the barracks and recreation ground.
The construction of the Motor Project Building, Little Keep, Dorchester, does not appear to have caused any damage to archaeological deposits.
