Abstract/Summary
A programme of archaeological trial trenching was undertaken by AC archaeology Ltd, the results of which will be presented as part of a planning application for a proposed new development at Higher Melcombe Manor, Higher Melcombe, Bingham, Dorset, DT2 7PB. The proposed development area is is within an area of former farm buildings that are surrounded by farmland and is in close proximity to a deserted medieval settlement, parts of which are designated as a Scheduled Monument. The trial trenching comprised the machine excavation of four trenches, each 1.6m wide and between 10m to 15m in length, totalling c. 72m2 of trenching. The trenches were positioned to determine the potential archaeological impact of the proposed development. None of the trenches contained
archaeological deposits and no finds or artefacts were recovered.
