Abstract/Summary
‘Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Shillingstone Parochial Church Council to monitor the excavation of a trench for a new gas pipe servicing Holy Rood Church, Shillingstone, Dorset. These works were in response to the recommendation from the Diocesan Advisory Committee that an archaeological watching brief was required whilst excavations were being undertaken. No archaeological features were uncovered but disarticulated human remains were found within the graveyard soil, along with fragments or roof tile and pottery. The disarticulated human remains were expeditiously reburied within the graveyard during a small ceremony held by the rector.’
