Abstract/Summary
A summary of the results of an archaeological assessment survey along the proposed route of the export pipeline from the Wytch Farm Gathering Station to the Furzebrook rail terminal. The Trust for Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to carry out the work by BP Petroleum Development Ltd. Work consisted of survey of above-ground features, geophysical survey, and trial pits.
Several previously-unrecorded above-ground features were recorded. However, the overall potential for survival of below-ground archaeological remains was deemed to be low, except for those areas of known archaeological interest defined before the survey commenced. No evidence of substantial medieval settlement remains was found in the vicinity of Scotland Farm. Elsewhere on the route, a small number of probable former field boundaries were identified, and a variety of other features interpreted as the result of animal disturbance, plough marks or or natural origin.
