Abstract/Summary

'BUARC, Bournemouth University’s archaeological consultancy, was commissioned by Steve Pugh to undertake an archaeological watching brief and evaluation project on a small redevelopment site behind Christchurch High Street, Dorset. Steve has secured planning permission to demolish a former café building and replace it with a new three storey mixed commercial and residential building. The two trial trenches uncovered well preserved potential medieval and 17th-19th century post medieval back-yard type features, including pits, a large drain and remnants of Victorian outbuildings. In consideration of the project results, it has been proposed that a watching brief should be undertaken for the duration of the development ground works where these have the potential to impact on archaeological remains of significance that exist on the site.'
