Title | Bulbury Camp. A Geophysical Survey |
Author/Originator | Stewart, D |
Date/Year | 2013 |
Abstract/Summary
Licensed by English Heritage under Section 42 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, a geophysical survey using magnetometry was carried out on the interior of the Iron Age hillfort at Bulbury during June 2013.
Ploughing has reduced the ramparts over much of the circuit and filled the ditch. Some evidence of round houses remains although the magnetometry survey indicates a fairly low level of habitation in the Iron Age, with moderate storage facilities. The survey has confirmed the sequence of entrances through the ramparts and found traces of two enclosures, possibly Bronze Age, a magnetic scatter of uncertain date and evidence of nineteenth century drainage work.
