Abstract/Summary
Stratascan were commissioned to undertake a geophysical survey of an area of land leased by Christchurch Borough Council that has been outlined for sale for residential development. The land is currently consecrated and must be deconsecrated by the Bishop of Winchester prior to development. A ground probing radar survey was carried out over approximately 625m2 of land at Christchurch Cemetery, Dorset. The objective of the survey was to determine whether any burials are present in this particular area of the cemetery. The results show that there is unlikely to be any burials present on the site. Responses typical of burials have been identified but are not aligned east-west suggesting that they do not relate burials but rather other features such as buried building debris.
