Abstract/Summary
This report documents the result of an excvation and watching brief carried out in 2019 at Binnegar Quarry Wareham, Dorset.
The archaeological potential of this site was highlighted in a cultural heritage assessment and showed the site lies in an area rich in archaeological sites and finds. This included numerous barrows of late Neolithic/Bronze Age date.
The objectives of the project were to sample, excavate and record all archaeological deposits and features within the areas threatened by proposed development.
No upstanding earthworks were encounted during the walkover and no datable or non naturally occuring archaological features were encountered within the stripped area. However, a possible terrace was noted beyond the south west boundary of this phase of work. This will be examined in further work on the site.
